MK Dons vs Portsmouth Preview

Last updated : 05 October 2012 By Jim Bonner

Portsmouth go to stadium:mk tomorrow for the very first time looking for a third straight win in League One.

Team News

Michael Appleton is unlikely to make any changes from the team that beat Yeovil on Tuesday as Darel Russell is still injured and Akos Buzsaky will most likely be on the bench again.

Pompey will face a former loanee tomorrow in Scott Allan who has joined the Dons on a one-month loan. Former Manchester United midfielders Alan Smith and Luke Chadwick should start but Ryan Lowe faces a fitness test after an illness on Thursday.

The Match

As the saga off the pitch continues to take more twists than Spaghetti Junction with confusion over the sale of the land behind Fratton Park, things are starting to look up on the pitch.

Back-to-back wins has seen Pompey move into positive points after the eventual points deduction and that has seen a more positive mood amongst blues fans. However, the trip to Milton Keynes will be Pompey's toughest yet.

The Dons have only conceded a single goal at home and have a very formidable midfield that like to pass the ball on the deck. Karl Robinson's team also boasts some quality strikers that are likely to keep Gabor Gyepes and Lubor Michalik on their toes.

Still, Pompey have an ace in the hole in former MK player Izale McLeod. The striker had his best game for his new side at Huish Park and will surely work even harder against his former club. He looks like a banker to score.

Whether the defence can keep the Dons out is another question. Appy's men have only kept one clean sheet all season, against nine-man Crawley, so it's probably safe to say that the home fans will be cheering at some point between 3pm and 5pm tomorrow,

Still, there is hope of a result for the thousands of Pompey fans travelling up to Buckinghamshire for the game in relatively high spirits. Hopefully, we will all be rewarded.

My Prediction

A week ago I'd have predicted a thrashing but even so, Pompey's two wins have been against poor teams in Scunthorpe and Yeovil. I expect this to be a much tougher game and a narrow defeat as a result.
