Whirlwind Signings

For those of you who accused us of being "inactive" in the transfer market, I ask you to join us now in a brief summary of the last 48 hours.

1) Gregory Vignal. As reported on here yesterday we were in the hunt for the young left back and now he has signed a contract and passed a medical. All that's left are some loose ends back at Anfield and he should be turning out in blue before you can say "where are my hubcaps"?
2) Paulo Wanchope. His signing is "imminent", according to Milan on Sky Sports News - in fact he's at Fratton Park as I type. His medical has been passed, contract signed, but some minor negotiations left with Malaga over his pay-off.
3) Collins Mbesuma. A player who was all set to join Bolton and who is touted as one of the hottest prospects in African football, this young striker scored 35 goals for Kaizer Chiefs last season as they finished Champions. In fact, he single handedly scored nearly half of their goals that season. And now he's just suddenly signed for us. Needless to say this is also something of a disappointment for those who insist we always conduct our transfer business in the public eye. He has currently returned to Zambia whilst waiting for a work permit which may need an appeal, but should be a formality.

That's six signings and counting then. What is most pleasing is that everyone who comes in seem to be saying the same things; they've heard about the training being good, they know Perrin's reputation, and what's more they're turning down bigger clubs to join us.

In the name of journalistic balance, and because I realise not everyone is as optimistic as me, it should be pointed out that none of them have ACTUALLY signed yet - they've all got minor details to iron out. But that shouldn't be a problem in the long run; after all nothing EVER goes wrong with us in the transfer market. Cough.
