Speculation, speculation, speculation

Given how the appointment of a new manager is imminent, it's no real surprise that the media have been making the most out of it possible. This site is no different - after all, here we are talking about it right now. To be honest it's a pleasant change that we've actually got something to discuss at all, since we've had weeks of absolutely no activity between matches.

The first, inevitable and most commonly circulated rumour of the day surrounds Gordon Strachan. The likes of The Mail, Sky Sports and the PFA website all believe that the job is his within the next 48 hours - and indeed as reported yesterday in every media outlet known to man, he HAS been interviewed for the job. Some sources even reckon that he will take charge with Ronald Koeman joining him as a coach. I can't really see it myself as I'd imagine that, if Koeman were to join at all, he would probably take complete control (another rumour that has been doing the rounds, whilst we're talking about it).

The most worrying rumour of the day came from The Mirror who reckoned that former manager John Gregory would return for a second spell at Fratton Park. The rumour was so horrifying a prospect that both Milan on Sky Sports News and the Official Site were moved to deny it.

Elsewhere, the Press Agency have thrown their weight behind former Villa and current Tranmere manager Brian Little. Soccernet had a word or two to say on behalf of Neil Warnock, Tony Adams turned up on a couple of messageboards and even Bobby Robson popped up to say hello - he finalised a £2.1m settlement with Newcastle yesterday and so now is able to look for a new job, if he so wishes.

The obvious highlight of the day came with the news that Steve Stone is likely to be kept on in a player/coach role. But as for who is the next manager - well, the guessing games continue and the search goes on as fans continue to wait for every little whisper of news from the mouth of Milan.
