Pompey Fixtures 06/07 Released!

Last updated : 23 June 2006 By Jim Bonner
The Barclays Premiership fixtures for Portsmouth have been released for the 2006/7 season and I'd have to say they're pretty interesting. Here's a few things I made of our fixture list:

- We begin, for the fifth year in a row at home to Blackburn Rovers. I said before the fixtures were released I'd take a home game and that's exactly what I got. Our first away trip is a midweek trek northwest to play Manchester City followed by an even longer trek to Middlesbrough a few days later before we return home once more to play Wigan Athletic. It could have been a lot harder from the start.

- The last game to be played at Fratton Park as we know it (if it all goes to plan) will be against Arsenal on the final day of the season, prior to that we get a nice trip to bogey team Everton the day before. Not the ideal May fixture list is it? Especially if we're in for a repeat of last season.

- The festive period will comprise of a nice Boxing Day trip to Upton Park with a home game against Spurs on New Years Day and a long trip to Bolton sandwiched in between. Again, not ideal but with January containing three home games with an away trip to a promoted side in between them then that month probably looks the best oppurtunity to start a run, especially with any new January additions we might be getting.

- One thing is for certain, there won't be a chance for a "Great Escape" this season looking at our last five home games. Those kind fixture list generators have given us Chelsea, Man Utd, Newcastle, Liverpool and Arsenal for our end of season run in at home!

It's not a bad list all in all, it's just a case of how good we can make it come August 19th when Blackburn visit Fratton Park and it all begins again!
