Negativity

WE ARE SIXTH IN THE LEAGUE WITH EIGHTEEN GAMES PLAYED!

The way some of our fans have been going on lately, you'd think that we were all constantly depressed. All I've heard this past week are people moaning about the lack of information regarding our financial situation and player deals.

Maybe these people should take a step back and remind themselves what an excellent season we're having.

It took us 'til April to get 29 points last season after 33 games (ironically after a 1-1 draw with Arsenal.) This season we have got the same amount of points after 18 games, playing some great football at times with the occasional grit when required. We have scored 24 goals in the league this season. The 24th league goal we scored last season was Toddy's at West Ham back in March!

The turnaround has been nothing short of spectacular in the small space of a year since Redknapp took over again. We are having our best season in over 50 years.

Yet our fans would rather focus on our "so silent he's dodgy" owner or contract clauses of loaned players!

I can understand the cynicism of our support given the amount of empty promises and disappointment we've had given to us over the past years. But my message to the fans who love to be over-critical is simple.

Just enjoy it!

There's no point in worrying about issues off the pitch. By the time January arrives a lot will be revealed. We'll find out just how much money Harry has to spend and who he wants to spend it on. We will also know if Manuel Fernandes will be signed and the results of the Stevens enquiry about the bung accusations.

Today 'Arry told our official site "I had nothing but support from him since the day he arrived and I'm sure if I need some players in the transfer window he will back me." So he's obviously heard good things from Sacha.

Regarding yesterdays reports from the gutter rags claiming that Gaydamak forced him to withdraw Fernandes from the squad, the Pompey manager said "The decision was mine and mine alone. The lad wasn't well on Friday and came to me on Saturday morning and said he still didn't feel well. He wouldn't have played anyway but I was going to put him on the bench."

He then went on to say that Fernandes isn't worth his asking price, yet. Even Manuel has said he isn't worth what Benfica want for him!
But what we can gather from what Harry says is that he will buy the Portuguese midfielder if the price is right.

Judging be his comments, it seems like he's been assured that he will have substantial funds available in January and even if they aren't, our current squad has taken us to the top six in the league so far so if Harry makes a couple of shrewd additions to the squad then who knows what we can achieve?

The only other question remaining is "What's going on with the new stadium?" It would be great if this could be answered sooner or later, but only if this time, it's a promise that isn't broken.

But as Pompey fans, we don't really have anything to complain about. Many of us are watching the best Portsmouth side we've ever seen. Although it is the nature of the fickle football fan to complain about nearly everything, you only have to cast your minds a year back to realise how good we've got it now.

There are fans of many clubs who would kill to be in our position right now. And it could get even better in the future, so cheer up!
