Milan Resigns

Acting Chairman Milan Mandaric has, as expected for some time resigned from his role at Portsmouth Football Club, leaving Alexandre Gaydamak to sail the ship on his own from now on.

His resignation will be complete after the game against Bolton on Monday night, making it his last game effectively in charge of the club. Although Milan is leaving the club, he has said that he's only a phone call away and that he still holds strong ties to Pompey after all he has gone through with Pompey, and the way we supporters have treated him. Mandaric has been linked with takeovers at other clubs but he has rubbished these rumours although he is now free to do what he likes and could well be back into football at a later date.

Milan Mandaric will go down in history as a Pompey legend. Sure, he has made mistakes and has had his critics. He's also seen by a few as an attention seeker who just likes to see his face in the paper. Whatever you think of Milan Mandaric however there is no escaping the fact that he saved us when Pompey were on the brink of death back in 1998 and since then we have become a Premiership club which none of us could ever dream of back when Terry Venables bought our club for £1.

As a Pompey supporter, I can only be forever grateful to Milan for what he has done for not only Portsmouth Football Club but the City itself. He has left the club in an infinately stronger position than what he first found it in and although he never quite fulfilled his promise of getting us a new stadium, he has passed on to the reins to a young, ambitious man who will (hopefully) deliver.

The new era has already begun under Sacha Gaydamak and under him we can further establish ourselves as a Premiership force after years of battling the drop but the bottom line is that our current situation would be pure fantasy if it wasn't for Milan Mandaric and I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of tribute to the man in one form or another. He most certainly deserves one because even though he came to Fratton Park as a businessman, he left as a Pompey fan and what he has done for Portsmouth will never be forgotten.

There's only one Milan!
