Man-Management Masterclass

Valentines day might have just passed but I doubt Harry Redknapp would have got any cards, not even from his own players despite his "charisma" (and I mean this entirely in a non-homosexual way!)

Richard Hughes is the latest in the batch of Pompey players to declare their anger at Redknapp. If you remember, Richard broke his hand earlier in the season but that didn't stop him playing 24 hours later. In fact, I would say since he broke his hand he was a better played than he was previously. Now there have been debates about whether Richard Hughes is good enough for the Premiership but there's one thing that can't be questioned and that is he gives 110% in every match he plays and is the sort of player who we need in this situation.

So he's suddenly dropped from the team without no explanation and to quote him he's "had enough" and I'm sure that statement is in regards to Redknapp.

I can give him an explanation now. It would go something like "Well I need to get in Davis because believe me he's a quality player.. ah he's unfit? Never mind he's still better than Hughes, for sure." Not to bring Davis into this arguement as we've yet to see the best of him, what manager would swap a commited, gritty player ideal for a relegation with a player who was unfit, just come back from injury and had played one game at Grimsby all season!? Why Harry Redknapp of course!

Now the quote "I've had enough" worries me. If we were to be relegated I think Hughsey would be a key figure in our fight for promotion the following season. As most Pompey fans I love players with fight in them and he would certainly fit the bill. The last thing I want is for him to leave next season regardless of our situation.

Redknapp has a history of pissing off his own players. Brian Priske is already leaving in the summer and who can blame him seeing as "No good" Pamarot and Andy "Hoof" Griffin are being played ahead of him, and he can't even get a spot on the bench. It's no secret that the majority of Pompey fans value him as our best full back at the club despite his short stay here. Dario Silva apparently "lost interest" though it wouldn't suprise me if that is down to Redknapps poor man management.

And of course it goes back even further. Remember Gary O'Neil expressing his frustrations that he couldn't get in the team two seasons ago and then was subsequently shifted out on loan to Walsall? How about Boris Zivkovic and his arguements that lead to his departure? I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg.

So who's next? Toddy can't be too pleased that he can't even get on the bench right now. God help Redknapp if he were to leave because Redknapp didn't play him because he values Benjani higher. But I can see it coming...

Having said all of this I still think it's ridiculous that fans should want Harry out at this moment in time. What would be the point? The new manager would have no time to save us from relegation. Sacking Redknapp now would just have admitted defeat this season and we're not down yet. I know that some Pompey fans think that we should bring a new manager in for next season but then they themselves have already admitted defeat.

Regardless of that last paragraph, Redknapp needs to sort out the squad and be honest with them now and not later on as the frustration will just carry on building inside of these players and they'll end up venting it in the media like Hughes did. I know honesty is a hard conecpt for a two-faced Judas to grasp but if he doesn't we could be left with no squad by the end of this season and it won't be because we have to sell.
