Early Premiership odds for 2004/2005

Last updated : 01 June 2004 By Alex Dale
Portsmouth have been given a generous 2000-1 chance of winning the Premiership next year, the same odds as near neighbours Southampton.

Division One Champions Norwich and play-off winners Crystal Palace have more or less been written off, ranked at 7500-1 to be holding aloft the trophy come May.

Ah, I remember the outroar when Barnsley were rated as 1000-1 long shots back in 1997. The gulf just keeps on growing...

Here are the odds to win the Premiership outright:

Arsenal - EVENS
Chelsea - 2/1
Man Utd - 13/5
Liverpool 16/1
Newcastle - 40/1
Aston Villa - 250/1
Birmingham - 300/1
Boro - 500/1
Tottenham - 500-1
Charlton - 500/1
Blackburn - 1000/1
Everton - 1000/1
Man City - 1000/1
Fulham 1000-1
Bolton - 1000/1
Southampton - 2000/1
Portsmouth - 2000/1
WBA - 5000/1
Crystal Palace - 7500/1
Norwich - 7500/1

Elsewhere down the league, Nottingham Forest at 14/1, Port Vale at 20/1 and Yeovil at 10/1 look worth a flutter. As for the Premiership title, my advice would be: don't bother.
