Match Report: Portsmouth 2 Feyenoord Rotterdam 0

Both sides were warming up for the big kick-off next week as Portsmouth tackle Aston Villa and the Dutch side meet NEC Nijmegen in the opening fixtures of the European leagues in seven days time but it was Pompey who left with the plaudits.
Patrik Berger, in his Fratton debut, tested the Dutch side, who finished 3rd last season, early on and gave the home team the lead with a thunderous shot a minute before the break. It remained that way until ten minutes from the end when a pinpoint cross from Steve Stone connected with Yakubu's head to put the game out of reach for the side from De Kuip.
Much like the games played around the country in the Nationwide league, the heat took its toll and water breaks were common place.

Russian trialist Rossen Kirilov played his second game for Pompey as he aims for a contract and the game saw a trial for 23 year old goalkeeper Rune Pederson, a transfer target for Chelsea earlier this year who has won the Danish championship with FC Copenhagen and was last seen at Serie A minnows Modena.

Team: Wapennar (Pederson 56): Foxe, de Zeeuw, Zikovic (Kirilov 56), Stefanovic, Stone, Faye (Hughes 71), O'Neil (Robinson 75), Berger (Burton 76), Sheringham (C) (Pericard 56), Todorov (Ayegbini 56)
