DULL DRAW ENSURES POMPEY'S LETHARGY CONTINUES

Everyone thought things would be much easier under Harry Redknapp, a 4-4-2 man he would play the team that everyone wanted, the team that the majority of fans see as their best and Rix's rotation and different formations would sucumb to the simplicity of Harry who refuses to study the other team and let them worry about us. This however seems to be a dream with Redknapp's team even more dodgy that Rix's.

Dave Beasant was once again shaky in goal, Jamie Vincent dire as a left wing back, Hiley completely pedestrian, O'Neil as shocking as he's been all season and Harper completely out of position up front. Scott Wilson looks a good aquisition, the juries out on Todorov but Mark Sumerbell looks poor - leagues away from Shaun Derry and nowhere near as good as Neil Barrett.

As the game kicked off, it was evident from the first minute that Pompey would labour without any width on the pitch. Whenever Prosinecki or Quashie picked up the ball, they had no options and had to play it through the middle of the pitch. This tactic was a non starter due to a very strong central defensive duo for Burnley.

Both teams didn't really look like scoring but it was Pompey who came nearest when a Prosineki free kick cannoned off the post. This would prove to be Pompey's only real chance of note in the first half and Burnley went ahead on a rare break from the stalemate in midfield. It was a well taken goal by Damien Johnson after he was let through by Scott Hiley.

With the Clarets one goal up, Pompey piled on the pressure but never seemed to make a breakthrough, they were just lacking any sort of spart to progress. The second half started as the first ended but Pompey should of equalised when Todorov blasted the ball over the bar from a free shot in the area.

It was Todorov who equalised for Pompey when he rounded the keeper and hit a tame shot that dribbled over the line. A mixed game for the Bulgarian but in the end scored the goal at won us a point. Miglioranzi and Biagini were introduced and sparked some life into Pompey. Migsy adding composure to the backline and Biagini undertaking his normal intelligent running.

A point and some players in the shop window. However it was evident today how much work really does need to be done if Pompey are to transform themselves into promotion hopefuls next season, thought provoking times.
