Young Pompey Beat Gosport

Last updated : 11 August 2009 By Jim Bonner
A youthful Pompey side capped pre-season with a comfortable win over local side Gosport Borough tonight.

Antti Niemi was the only real "senior" in the side although Moses Ashikodi, a 22-year-old striker known for his scarce appearances in the lower leagues, made an appearance as a trialist.

The likes of Matt Ritchie, Joel Ward, James Hurst and Paris Cowan-Hall all featured at Privett Park and it was promising winger Ritchie who bundled in the opener.

Ashikodi scored the second with a penalty after being taken out by Andy Puckett in the box and substitute Danijel Subotic added a late third to wrap up the game and Pompey's pre-season.

All the friendlies are now over and it's time for the serious business of the Premier League and the cup competitions, where Pompey will discover who their second round opponents are in the Carling Cup at 10pm tomorrow night.

Bring on the Fulham.....?
