Whittingham Brings In Barcham

Guy Whittingham has wasted no time in continuing his recruitment drive by signing winger Andy Barcham on a three-year deal.

The 26-year-old predominantly plays on the left flank even though he is right-footed so expect him to cut inside often and look to beat defenders with his pace.

Barcham has had his injury problems and leaves Scunthorpe having failed to rediscover his form that saw the Iron snap him up from Gillingham where he scored 14 goals in two seasons.

Gills and Scunny fans say that if he can get over his injury problems then Barcham will be a fantastic signing for Pompey but a three-year contract is risky. Hopefully he can repay the faith that Guy has shown in him.

Barcham's signing is not expected to be the only deal done this week. There are whispers that Johnny Ertl and David Connolly will be committing to Portsmouth whilst the rumour mill is churning that Port Vale winger Ashley Vincent is next on Whittingham's hitlist.

It is fairly amusing to see fans of other League Two clubs scoff at Pompey's plethora of signings.

They spout the usual rubbish about how the club is spending money despite the debt on the club, even though the debt is being serviced by a CVA. Pompey are not paying a single penny in transfer fees, aren't (reportedly) overspending on wages and the manager has had to start adding players to a squad of just four players once the season ended!

Currently, the squad number still only stands at 15 players and is very light on midfielders so expect more players to join in the near future.
