Jack Whatmough has signed a new deal at Portsmouth which will keep him at the club for two more seasons.
The 20-year-old has made 50 appearances for Pompey in his career so far and having played a part in the title winning campaign this year, he will hope to break into the first team next season although will find it difficult to displace Christian Burgess and Matt Clarke.
Ben Close also signed a new one-year contract last week which means the only Pompey players who are out of contract and haven't had their futures decided are Brandan Haunstrup, Amine Linganzi, Stanley Aborah, Noel Hunt and Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Whilst Jack's contract extension isn't the news Pompey fans were expecting today, it is certainly welcome. We will all undoubtedly be hoping that Burgess and Naismith can be tied down to new deals sooner rather than later, given that a certain future Wigan manager may covet them.
Paul Cook is set to be confirmed as the new Latics boss tomorrow, so it's essential that those players who are certainly wanted at Portsmouth commit to the club as soon as possible if only to prevent the vulture lurking.
