Whack-a-Yak

It's the bad news we all feared - Yakubu's knee ligament injury will keep him out until late December. The injury couldn't come at a worse time, as Pompey's frontline is currently decimated by knocks and niggles.

To be honest, it was only going to be a matter of time. In recent history, I think the only Pompey striker who has got out of Fratton Park without a serious knee injury is Peter Crouch. Walsh, Allen, Mills, Bradbury, Nightingale, Burchill - the names just roll off the tongue. Not to mention, of course, the current batch of cripples; Todorov and Pericard.

To make matters worse LuaLua picked up a groin strain on Saturday leaving just Fuller ready to play against Manchester City; Keene and Vine are out on loan, and the laughable outside chance of Mark Burchill getting a first team start is a no-go as he's also injured.

Joe Jordan it is then.
