Watford vs Pompey Preview

There's no time to get carried away with our superb victory over Man United yesterday because tomorrow we face a trip to bottom club Watford as Pompey aim for their second double of the season.

The Hornets are virtually relegated already but will want to put up a fight in front of their home fans so I can see this being one of those frustrating battles just like the reverse fixture at Fratton Park which was one of the worst games of football I have ever seen.

Lauren and Gary O'Neil both took knocks in yesterday's win and are doubtful whilst Sol Campbell looks set to miss out again meaning we go to Vicarage Road with a weakened defence, albeit the likes of Traore, Primus, Stefanovic and Pamarot should still be too good for the Premiership's bottom club. Harry may also shake up other parts of the squad and rest Benjani and Kanu to give LuaLua and Toddy some playing time.

Watford will no doubt play their usual hoof ball game devoid of any quality but plenty of fight so we must be up for the battle. It would be in true Pompey fashion if we were to follow up our best result of the season with our worst. On paper we should win this but the same could be said two seasons ago when we travelled to Vicarage Road for a seemingly straightforward League Cup tie against a Championship side only to get thrashed as Heidar Helguson scored twice in a 3-0 win for Watford.

The last time Pompey met Watford at Vicarage Road in the league the match ended in a 2-2 draw with Micah Hyde and Neil Cox scoring for the Hornets and Kevin Harper and Deon Burton finding the net for Pompey.

We've come a long way since then, so don't screw this one up Pompey!
