The Scottish international has returned from a loan spell at Wigan Athletic, and Peter Storrie has reacted to supposed interested from the First Division strugglers by stating: "We would be interested because his future is away from here". As mentioned, Gary O'Neil and Deon Burton are already on short-term loans at the West Midlands club.

Paul Merson stated that Walsall played more attractive football than Portsmouth following the opening day thrashing of West Bromwich Albion. Now? "[Portsmouth] were beating teams so easily and playing such fantastic football that it made you think that the division wasn't that hard" said Merson.

"But since coming to Walsall I've realised that the division is a lot tighter and more difficult".

There you go, then.

In other loan news, Kevin Harper's spell at Norwich City is expected to be extended by another two months.
