Utaka Heading For Pompey

John Utaka has claimed today that he will soon be a Pompey player and has also hinted that Kanu will also be at the club next season.

The Nigerian international striker claims he is looking forward to playing for Portsmouth next season alongside Kanu after speaking to him about the club. Utaka said: "Yes, Kanu has spoken with me about Portsmouth. What he told me is personal to me but I am really looking forward to joining him at Fratton Park and playing alongside him in the colours of Portsmouth next season."

The 22-year-old scored 11 goals in 28 appearances for Rennes last season and the French club are said to be interested in Niko Kranjcar, who could be used as a makeweight for the deal. Other sources suggest that he will be bought for nearly £6 million.

So if what Utaka says is true then Redknapp will have one of the two quality strikers he wants. There are rumours that Harry has lodged an £8 million bid for Jermain Defoe (which is likely to get rejected as Spurs want at least £12 million apparently) and there's also talk that Pompey have agreed a deal with Preston for David Nugent.
