Utaka Comes Home, Defoe On Loan?

Ghana defeated Nigeria today in the African Nations Cup quarter-final which means that John Utaka and (crocked) Kanu will return to Portsmouth.

Ex-Pompey man Yakubu put the Super Eagles ahead with a penalty in the first half but Michael Essien equalised just before half-time. Sulley Muntari then squared the ball to Junior Agogo who tapped in for the ten-man Black Stars late on.

So Pompey can now welcome back John Utaka and the injured Kanu back to the squad in time for the trip to Bolton, as Ghana go on to the semi-finals to play either Tunisia or Cameroon.

As if the Defoe/Benjani saga wasn't confusing enough, it has now been revealed that Defoe is only at Pompey on loan for the time being!

There's no need to panic though, as the deal will be confirmed as permanent as soon as Benjani's move to City (presumably) goes through this week. The reason he is initially "on loan" is because the paperwork regarding the deal was hurried through at 11:55pm on Thursday and there was no time to finalise a permanent deal.
