Unsworth and Lua-Lua ink deals

Newcastle and Portsmouth had haggled over the Lua-Lua for months after it was clear that the Congo international had no future at St James Park following his snub at Newcastle's request to rejoin their squad for the UEFA Cup tie against Marseille. Portsmouth fans were keen to see Lua-Lua sign permanently after some exciting performances for their team, and now they have their wish after he signed a three year contract at Fratton Park, despite a late attempt from Premiership newcomers West Bromwich Albion.

David Unsworth becomes the second defender signed during the close season. Unsworth, 30, has playedtop flight football for Everton for over a decade, notwithstanding a one year stint at West Ham, and a shambolic transfer to Aston Villa where he failed to make an apperance before returning to Everton. Unsworth joins Portsmouth on a free transfer.
