LB: Patrice EVRA

RM: Park JI-SUNG
CM: Paul SCHOLES

CF: Milan BAROS
CF: BENJANI

Bench: Asmir BEGOVIC, Hermann HREIDARSSON, Arnold MVUEMBA, Richard HUGHES, Pedro MENDES

Final Thoughts: The positives were that it was only two, mainly thanks to David James and also Lassana Diarra looked good again. Negatives were another poor performance from Sol Campbell who struggled with Rooney and Distin's injury which could be serious.

Thanks to everyone who "tuned in" and all feedback is welcome. I might do this again if the page views turn out to be good. Play Up Pompey!

21:51: FULL-TIME: Thank god that is over. Two early goals meant that we had it all to do and not once did we truly threaten United's goal. We can be thankful it wasn't more than that but at least it looks like results have been kind to us tonight.

21:50: Two minutes added time as Tevez tries again for a third but is blocked in the box.

21:48: Tevez almost makes it three but James saves his first attempt and sees his second shot trickle wide from a tight angle. We've just not turned up tonight.

21:45: Nothing comes of the corner as Park fires over. Nani then has an attempt that is also fired over.

21:44: Nothing is happening now. United are seeing out the game as you'd expect. They win a corner though...

21:40: Nani strikes from distance and it's just over the bar. Only eight minutes left to endure now as West Ham score a late penalty against Liverpool. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing...

21:37: Milan Baros comes off for Richard Hughes. I'm not sure why considering we're two goals down. United still look like they may get a third.

21:33: Rooney and Ronaldo off, Hargreaves and Tevez on. Doesn't get any easier does it?

21:31: Brilliant double save from James as United make the best of Sean Davis' wayward header. He saves from Park and then blocks Nani's follow up. Noe Pamarot makes a vital clearance after it looked like Ferdinand would score.

21:29: Pompey look shakier at the back without Distin as United continue to threaten. Nothing noteworthy has happened in the last few minutes though.

21:25: Baros claims a penalty but it isn't given. Rooney then has a shot saved (caught) by James.

21:22: Campbell outmuscles Rooney but he tackles him and gives Ronaldo an easy chance to score but thankfully Ronaldo is off-key for once. Pompey have been the architects of their own downfall at times this game.

21:20: Pompey win a corner after some good play but it comes to nothing. Diarra has looked good once again as Anderson comes on for Paul Scholes who has made a difference for Fergie's men today.

21:17: Wayne Rooney is caught offside. Campbell is struggling with him tonight.

21:15: Campbell's error is almost capitalised on by Wayne Rooney but he screws up his chip and David James claims it. We got lucky then....

21:14: Pompey have had a decent spell in context with the game after a nice spell of possession and that results in a tame shot to Van Der Sar from Diarra.

21:10: James saves Ferdinand's attempt from the corner whilst Man City predictably equalise...

21:09: Benjani makes his way into the box but fails to get a shot in when he probably should have. Now United have a corner...

21:07: Some good news for us - City are behind at Derby but United are in control at the moment, keeping possession well.

21:05: Pompey go to 4-5-1 now as the second half is underway.

21:03: SUBSTITUTIONS - Arnold Mvuemba and Hermann Hreidarsson come on with Lauren and Sylvain Distin coming off. Distin has a hamstring... bugger.

21:01: Before the second half starts let's discuss the latest transfer rumours shall we? Benjani to City? I'll eat my hat if that happens but there are strong rumours that "Spiderman" Jonas Gutierrez will be joining tomorrow in a £7 million deal. We shall see....

20:48: HALF-TIME: Nani blazes over before the break. Sky Sports are creaming over Ronaldo's free kick and to be fair it was a great goal. He has been the difference but United have cut us open time after time without really testing James.

Harry is gonna have to work miracles if we're to get anything from this game as we've shown very little as an attacking force so far. I'm not getting my hopes up though...

20:46: Half-time is approaching and United almost score again but Park is blocked just in time.

20:42: The free kick leads to nothing and Pamarot's awful in the centre of the pitch is almost punished as Nani fires wide after a mazy run.

20:40: Distin clears as United come forward again. Diarra nutmegs someone and goes on a run before he is stopped. Free kick to Pompey for a foul soon after...

20:38: Rooney would have scored if he made better contact on the ball from Evra's cutback.

20:37: BOOKING - NOE PAMAROT - Blatant shirt pull as Park was running away from him. Can't protest that one.

20:35: Pompey have definitely settled down but don't look like troubling the home side at all. Still, one goal can change it if we can find one from somewhere...

20:33: Glen Johnson makes a great challenge on Ronaldo in the box. Paul Scholes is pulling all the strings for United in midfield but Pompey have grown into the match a little.

20:28: Patrice Evra's long range shot is deflected but James grabs it with ease. United are still very comfortable at the moment, Van Der Sar has had nothing to do.

20:27: Kranjcar is so nearly through on goal, but Carrick does enough to take the ball away from him.

20:25: Benjani claims that Vidic handballed when he fell over in his own box but it would have been harsh. Kranjcar wastes the resulting corner and now now Ronaldo is lining up another free kick.... James parries it and Johnson puts it out for a corner. Brown volleys it over from all of five yards.

20:20: Baros' first touch lets him down in the box after he was played through. If he gets it right then there's a decent opportunity to score...

20:16: Milan Baros shoots from outside the box and gets a corner but it is easily caught by Van Der Sar and we were on the backfoot again.

20:14: GOAL - CRISTIANO RONALDO - Ronaldo strikes the free kick in. Jamo had no chance and this game is probably over already and we're in danger of a thrashing.

20:13: Campbell gives away a free kick in a dangerous area. United are all over us at the moment.

20:10: GOAL - CRISTIANO RONALDO - Some one-touch football plays Ronaldo through on the left and he slots past James with ease. Mountain to climb already...

20:08: Still living dangerously as Sol hacks the ball away after some interplay in the box from United.

20:06: Good challenge by Distin on Park Ji-Sung, but Pompey are struggling to hold onto the ball at the moment as the hosts have all the possession.

20:04: So far, so good though United look better going forward but our defence is holding strong at the moment.

20:00: Here we go then - Pompey to kick off and they're attacking the Stretford End in the white away kit.

19:56: Although we're playing 4-4-2 it wouldn't surprise me to see us switch to 4-5-1 during much of the game. It seems that Ronaldo is playing up front with Rooney - tactical genius or blunder from Alex Ferguson?

19:52: Sol Campbell is finally fit which is a boost, but then United have Nemanja Vidic back too. Harry has already labelled this a "bonus game" in his pre-match interview, so I guess we can't expect much.

19:49: Jamo makes his 500th appearance in the Premier League so hopefully he will celebrate that with a clean sheet. I'm not sure 4-4-2 is the way to go when playing United away but then Fergie has rested Giggs and left Tevez on the bench, so there's hope.
