Transfer Talk Once Again

Here's some more transfer talk for Pompey fans to digest as the World Cup nears its end.

The strongest rumour doing the rounds now is that Peruvian striker Jefferson Farfan; currently playing for PSV Eindhoven is set to join Pompey for a record transfer fee of £7,500,000. There are reasons why this fee is so high. For starters Farfan has only just recently signed a new contract that would, in theory, keep him at the Philips Stadion until 2010 and that alone would justify a heavy price tag but add to that the fact he is only 21, has Champions League experience and has netted 23 goals in 36 games you can soon see why he is sought after by Chelsea and Barcelona too and why PSV would slap a high price tag on him. Talks are apparently in an advanced stage for the highly rated striker so here's hoping that Peter Storrie can get a deal done as soon as possible before other clubs come sniffing around.

Sticking on the topic of PSV Eindhoven the local rag Pompey are supposedly keen on their 'keeper: Heurelho Gomes. I have seen Gomes play in the Champions League and I was quite impressed with what I saw, keeping a decent number of clean sheets along with an impressive string of fine saves against Europe's best teams. The 25 year old Brazillian stopper could be well worth a look. Pompey "have confessed" their admiration for 20 year old Benfica midfielder Manuel Fernandes according to Mark Storey, so take that as you will.. though I will confess, I know nothing about this player yet and I would question why we would need a defensive midfielder when we already have Mendes and Davis who can do the job.

Other transfer news in brief: Priske hasn't gone yet but Andy Griffin is staying. Sol Campbell hasn't even been spoken to by Harry Redknapp yet although the manager claims he can still do a top job. Redknapp also reckons that Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari has been over-priced by his owners Udinese. Toddy has told his internation team-mate Petrov to come to us and although there is no official story, I have a feeling we're in for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who has rejected a move to Celtic. He probably thinks he can do far better than the SPL and is believed to want to stay in the superior English division as he is in talks with three Premiership clubs. Would you bet against one of them being Pompey? Watch this space.
