Transfer Tales Episode II

Last updated : 04 January 2006 By Jim Bonner
It's still early January and we still haven't signed anyone yet.. Panic! ...Or not.

Here's the latest:

Possible Ins

The papers have been rife with transfer speculation today. The main ones about... wait for it.............. English strikers! The horror!

Firstly we turn to two english strikers who are playing in the Championship. Dean Ashton of Norwich is being touted to be a Pompey player for a huge fee of 7 million quid. I personally think it is a scare off amount as no way could a player who has only played half a Premiership season (even if it was quite successful) could be worth that much money even at Ashtons age.

Next on the speculation list is "Andee" Johnson (I hate that bloody tannoy announcer at Palace.) who is speculated to also be worth £7,000,000 and he did wonders for Palace in the Premiership last season and is definately a Premiership player. However he does have a lengthy contract at Palace though if Gaydamak does bring in millions to the club you never know.

There have also been stories about Harry being re-united with a certain young man called Defoe. He's not first choice at Spurs currently and although Harry has ruled him out for being "too good" to put it bluntly you can't rule this unlikely move out completely. There have also been some ridiculous rumours of a swap deal of Lua Lua and £8 million for Defoe when in my opinion he isn't worth £8 million alone.

The other tidbits are that Di Canio has thankfully pledged his "future" to Lazio as well as to stop his facist salutes. Old boy Chris Sutton and Cameron Jerome are also both potential transfer targets with the former being reportedly worth £300,000 and the latter being monitored because his future with Cardiff is in doubt.

Possible Outs

Reports are suggesting that Zvomomir Vukic could be on his way to Partizan Belgrade as Harry Redknapp looks to clear out all of Perrin's "failures". If he were to leave then we would have no international players going to the World Cup at all (for now. Vukic could be also put on the "major disappointment" list after promising so much but failing to deliver even if he didn't get the chances he should have had to impress.

Definite Outs

It's official. Laurent Robert is now an Eagle. No, he hasn't joined Crystal Palace he has in fact gone to Benfica where he now faces the possibility of playing against Liverpool in the Champions League. In my opinion Laurent Robert has been a major disappointment at Portsmouth despite his slight recent improvements but his free kick against Blackburn summed up his Portsmouth stay. With only one solitary goal against West Brom to show for his "efforts" when playing for us I'm sure most Pompey fans will not be sorry to see him go. However our squad is now virtually naked down the wings with only Matthew Taylor and the already forgotten Franck Songo'o the only natural wingers at the club.

That is all for this episode. Do tune in to Fratton Faithful tommorow where no doubt there will be more possible ins and outs.
