Transfer Tales Episode I

Last updated : 04 January 2006 By Jim Bonner
It's three days into January and I'm suprised we haven't actually officially signed anyone yet. However these are the latest stories to emanate before the imminent takeover.

Possible Ins

Zimbabwean striker Benjamin "Benjani" Mwarurari has been said to be a possible transfer target estimated as being valued at 5 million quid which sounds daunting at the moment though our new friend Gaydamak may not care about such little money should it need to be spent. I don't know too much about Benjani though his record this seaon at Auxerre stand as one goal in eleven starts however his track record in the past has been rather more impressive.

Danny Murphy is also the latest to join the paper talk list. I can't see us signing him myself. I think he will stay at Charlton. Oh and there was something about Nigel Quashie too.. please don't let it be true!

Possible Outs

"Laurent Robert to Benfica" is the latest transfer rumour although this one seems stronger than "Laurent Robert to just about every club in Ligue Une" because Benfica can offer him Champions League football and ultimately the decision lies with parent club Newcastle United should they wish to sell him, whether they are actually allowed to do that whilst he is on loan to us is another matter.

That would be two players Benfica swipe from us if rumours are to be believed as Azar Karadas could return back to his parent club. Whether anyone could care is down to opinion as neither Karadas or Robert have really made much contribution to our season. I was expecting much more from Robert personally despite all the warnings from the Geordies.

Definite Outs

"Skippy" has returned to Aigaleo after a disappointing time with Pompey. His heart was in the right place but he was just not good enough in my opinion. Now all that's left of Zajec's signings is "Cost Us" Chalkias who people seem to have forgotten about as Sander Westerveld seems to have taken his place.

One more thing. Major TAXI for me after a reader pointed out that you drop two points for a draw and not one. Quite embarassing considering I did A-Level Maths at college...
