Toddy To The Rescue

It was frantic match today at Fratton Park. It felt wierd to be there having gotten used to the seats in London as this was our first match at home for a month, and it was an entertaining one at that!

If you never managed to see the game either live or on TV late on Saturday then here's a brief summary:

Pompey batter Blackburn for half an hour until a decent solo goal by Bellamy gives Rovers the lead well against the run of play. Benjani misses a great chance to equalise, standing in the centre of the box and hitting the ball straight at Brad Friedel. Lua Lua shows him how it's done by shrugging off Savage and lashing a shot in the bottom right of the goal from outside the box.

The second half was more scrappy though we continued to pile on the pressure until some sloppy defending allows Bellamy to get in the box and produce another great strike on the turn. The game starts to swing in the away sides favour until Toddy and Routledge are subbed on for Benjani and Davis. Stefanovic misses a sitter with a header that goes over but we start to pile on the pressure again and are rewarded when some great work by Taylor on the left leads to a cross by him and it's headed in with ease by Toddy to level again.

The game isn't finished yet though as in the final 12 minutes both sides want the win and it's end to end stuff as we give away a free kick, the ball ends up in the net and I close my eyes thinking we have blown it only to find that Brett Emerton handled the ball into the net to my great relief! So 2-2 it finished.. fair result? Maybe, but we certainly had enough chances to win it and we would have if it wasn't for Craig Bellamy.

Still, this is a result we wouldn't have got two months ago. We have a lot of battling qualities in the side as well as playing good football, we're still scoring goals but even if we're only conceding goals that are contenders for goal of the month we still look shaky at the back and this must be addressed quickly seeing as our defence will be up against Theirry Henry on Wednesday.

Is it a good point for us? We'll see tommorow when West Brom play Aston Villa. Bottom line is that it's now 4 games unbeaten for us, the momentum has continued and our revival continues.
