The World Cup Is Over

The World Cup is finally over. Congratulations to Italy, on the whole I think they were definately the best team in the competition, but it could have been so much different if that dodgy penalty wasn't given against Australia. But Zinedine Zidane... what a way to end your career! Such a shame....

Anyway, it's all over now. As you have probably noticed, there hasn't been much transfer activity in the Premiership during the World Cup so perhaps now it's finished we will get a lot more done and we certainly need to having only made one signing so far, and even that's only a loan move.

So who's on the list now? Sol Campbell has been heavily linked with a move to Portsmouth and having left Arsenal yesterday to seek out fresh challenges, he could be on the way. However Arsene Wenger is convinced he will move abroad to start a new life after the English media practically "ruined" his current one.

We look to have lost out on Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink now, if we were even in for him in the first place. Apparently he's having a medical at Charlton tommorow. Speaking of tommorow the verdict of the Italian match fixing scandal will be given and could result in a lot of top qualty players leaving on the cheap. I'm not saying we'd be able to get the likes of Ibrahimovic, Gattuso and Toni but there might be a couple of players that would interest Pompey.

Rumours also have it that a bid has been accepted for Jefferson Farfan and that he is discussing personal terms, Nicholas Anelka is also possibly moving to Pompey on loan. I have also seen some clips of Manuel Fernandes; the 20 year old Portugese midfield player can play in an offensive or defensive role and he certainly looks good from what I have seen and is also rated very highly by the Portugese people. The papers have linked us with a £6 million move for the player, although it's hard to see anything materialising just yet. Hugo Almeida is another Portugese player reportedly being tracked by Pompey, currently at FC Porto the 22 year old striker is finding his first team oppurtunities limited and may fancy a move abroad.

One last thing, the local rag yesterday reported that Milan Mandaric is going to sell his half of Portsmouth Football Club to Sacha Gaydamak. Other papers have followed this up today and there's even a chance that an announcement will be made tommorow on his future at the club so stay tuned.

The football may be over for the time being, but as Pompey fans don't expect to be too bored during the coming week!
