The Relegation Battle Page

Last updated : 18 April 2012 By Jim Bonner

Whilst Portsmouth Football Club is struggling to stay alive due to matters off the pitch, there is still a relegation battle to be won.

Whilst relegation may not worry some Pompey fans, it could be the difference between the club surviving or going bust in the summer as a second tier is arguably more attractive to a prospective buyer than a third tier club.

This page will track how the other strugglers are getting on in terms of recent form and upcoming fixtures, especially those six-pointers against the other basement teams.

It will be updated after every matchday so watch this space to see just how hopeful Pompey fans should be about avoiding the drop.

21st) Bristol City: Played 44 - 45pts (GD: -26)

The Robins' recent form has picked up and they are now in prime position to survive. The only hope for Pompey fans is that they pick up no more than a point from their last two games.

Recent Form: DDWWDD (10 points from last 18)

Remaining Fixtures

Barnsley (H)

Burnley (A)

22nd) Portsmouth: Played 44 - 40pts (GD: -6)

The amazing turnaround at Doncaster followed by yesterday's victory over Palace means there is still hope of surviving. However, if Bristol City win one of their two remaining games (or draw them both) then Pompey are certainly down.

However, if they slip up then Pompey could still survive if they win their last two games but will be relying on favours from Barnsley and Burnley.

Recent Form: WLDLWW (10 points from last 18)

Remaining Fixtures

Derby (H)

Nottingham Forest (A)

23rd) Coventry City: Played 44 - 40pts (GD: -18)

Coventry have a chance of staying up but they are no longer Pompey's concern as we have to win both of our games anyway. If we do that, the only way Coventry could jump us is to win both of their games by at least eight goals.

Recent Form: WWDLDL (8 points from last 18)

Remaining Fixtures

Doncaster (H)

Southampton (A)

Fixtures Against Other Strugglers

Doncaster (H) - Saturday, 21st April

24th) Doncaster Rovers: Played 44 - 33pts (GD: -37) - RELEGATED

Donny's policy of hiring big-name mercenaries hasn't worked out through "super agent" Willie McKay hasn't worked and they were officially relegated after the dramatic defeat to Pompey last Saturday.

The midweek draw at Middlesbrough means that Rovers are now certain to finish bottom of the Championship.

Recent Form: DLLLLD (2 points from last 18)

Coventry (A)

Ipswich (H)

Coventry (A) - Saturday, 21st April
