The Players Of Perrin

Last updated : 22 March 2006 By Jim Bonner
It seems a long time ago since Pompey ran out on the first day of the season, with all of his signings in the squad Alain Perrin stood on the touchline occasionally giving out the odd order. Fast forward seven months and now the team has transformed beyond Perrin's recognition. So, where are Perrin's signings now and what are they doing? Fratton Faithful reports:

Sander Westerveld

Everton were desperate enough to take him on loan not long ago and hasn't exactly endeared himself to Evertonians either being an ex Liverpool player. He has let in a few goals, pulled off the odd save but not really made a terrible blunder like he did when he started his tenure at Pompey.

Gregory Vignal

The average french left-back has been linked to Lyon where his former manager Gerrard Houllier is now plying his trade although he won't be gone this season it is doubtful we will ever see him play in a Pompey shirt again.

Andy O'Brien

Suprisingly still in the first team since Redknapp came back. Will he be replaced with Dejan once he comes back? Fratton Faithful says he will.

Brian Priske

In my opinion Priske was Perrin's best signing and is arguably our best defender based on his performances so far for us. It looked as if he wouldn't play for Pompey again following Redknapp's stubborness, however when Harry was forced to play him he has played well and now seems to have forced his way back into the team. Let's hope it stays that way!

Laurent Robert

Since he moved from Pompey he now finds himself playing for the team that knocked out the current champions of Europe and faces an upcoming tie with Barcelona. He has also managed to find the net one more time than he did for us (that's twice.. for the record!) Git.

John Viafara

Since he has been on loan to Real Sociedad he has managed to pick up a yellow card and a red card for the Spanish side. Real Sociedad currently find themselves only 2 points above the drop zone in La Liga.

Salif Diao

I often forget he's on loan here. He has failed to make an impact and I doubt, like his Liverpool comrade Vignal, that we'll see him in a Pompey shirt ever again.

Franck Songo'o

Was supposedly going on loan to Derby County in February but nothing came of it. He frequently finds himself playing in the reserves though he might have a future at Pompey yet.

Collins Mbesuma

Still trying to find his "fitness" now. Will there ever be a time where he makes the first team? Don't bet on it!

Azar Karadas

A bit part player in the team, Karadas has only scored one goal for us all season but it could be a vital one. He would make a good sub to put on to put himself about in the box when we're chasing a game. I can't see him staying permanently though.

Dario Silva

He was released from Pompey in February and has retired from international football since. I have no idea what he's up to now. Possibly on holiday? Maybe he'll retire from football altogether? Maybe he's even been abducted by aliens? I don't know.

That wraps it up for now. Astonishing how I've practically gone through a whole football team there!
