The Opposition View: Stevenage

Last updated : 18 October 2015 By Jim Bonner

What do you make of Stevenage's season so far?

We're doing slightly worse than I'd expected. I thought we'd be weaker than last season but didn't expect us to be rooted in the bottom six. There have been some positive signs in the last couple of games though, so hopefully we've turned a corner after a string of bad performances and results.

Teddy Sheringham was a popular player during his year at Portsmouth. How popular is he with Stevenage fans?

He's not disliked but at the same time I wouldn't say he's massively popular with the fans at this moment in time. I think quite a few a waiting to be won over but it's nothing a few positive results won't resolve, though.

Who are the key players in your team and what are their biggest strengths and weaknesses?

Dean Parrett is the key player in our squad. A central midfielder who makes us tick, he's quality on the ball and a grafter too. I'm also a big fan of Ben Kennedy. He has been used out wide, up top or just off the striker. He's a very talented young attacker, just back from injury and he's made a positive contribution since his return although he can be a little excitable at times but more than capable of causing anyone problems at this level.

What do you make of the current Pompey squad?

It looks very strong with plenty of strength in depth. Paul Cook is a capable manager so definitely see you being there or thereabouts at the business end of the season. Any squad with the likes of Bennett, Roberts and Tubbs will carry a threat.

What kind of match can we expect at Fratton Park on Tuesday night and would you take a draw if offered now?

I'd most definitely take a point if offered it now. Being my pessimistic self I'd say you can expect a win. I wouldn't be surprised if we tried to keep it tight but Sheringham hasn't shown any sort of preference for style of play on the road so don't know what to expect.

Predict the outcome of the game.

Portsmouth 2 Stevenage 0 (Tubbs and Lavery)
