The Opposition View: Cheltenham Town

Last updated : 05 May 2017 By Jim Bonner

What's your overall assessment of Cheltenham's season now League Two safety has been secured?

It hass been poor. We came up with hopes of reaching the play-offs but we made some shocking signings in the summer which didn't strengthen the team. August to December was embarrassing and we've been playing catch up ever since.

Luckily, we released a lot of dross in January and steadied the ship. I don't think I ever thought we were going to go down, but it was great to ensure safety last Saturday.

Who are the key players in this Robins side?

Kyle Storer is the main man. He's played in all but one of our wins this season. Sadly, he's also been suspended for fifteen games. He is truly a "Captain Fantastic" and I can't wait for him to get a proper season under his belt next year.

Our Player of the Year (clean sweep) was Billy Waters and he is very dangerous on his day.

What are the biggest strengths and weaknesses of your team?

Our main strength is that we're a lot better in defence than we were and Scott Brown has had 9 clean sheets since coming in back in January. We hardly had any for the first few months of the season. Will Boyle is part of the reason for that as well.

On the other hand, our goalscoring record has been shocking this season.

How will Cheltenham approach this game? Will they play with freedom now safety is assured or will the players' minds be on the beach?

I think we'll approach it in a more relaxed frame of mind. The club want to finish as high as possible and with Pompey looking to have a massive crowd, it's bound to gee the players up.

Pompey and Cheltenham have drawn all five of their previous encounters. Do you think a sixth is on the cards?

On form, not a chance as Pompey are flying. However, sometimes football has these little things. I'd take a draw right now.

Predict which team you believe will win the League Two title on Saturday.

Plymouth have to be favourites, if only because of the position they're in. I don't see any of the top three dropping points, which by default gives Argyle the title.
