The Opposition View: Brighton

So, exciting start to the season then?

Yep, a very pleasing way to start life at the Amex. We didn't have it all our own way in the first half, but as the game wore on we grew in confidence and (super) sub Will Buckley felt it right to etch himself into Albion folklore with a superbly taken brace - sending the 20,000 home fans into complete delirium. It was quite something!

What do you think of your new home? Is it as impressive as the media are making it out to be?

It's truly marvellous. Although in fairness the majority of our fans are just grateful to have a roof over our heads at long last. Tony Bloom (chairman) has certainly treated us to a little more than the bare essentials, mind - padded seats, HD screens, local ale - you name it, we've got it. So we really couldn't have asked for any more.

Are you happy with Brighton's transfer deals so far? Where do you need to strengthen the most?

Very happy with the players we've brought in. Gus has made a point of adding real pace and trickery to our attack, and has spent a fair amount in doing so - Will Buckley, Kazenga LuaLua, Craig Mackail-Smith and Will Hoskins the notable signings. Although with the loss of Elliott Bennett and Glenn Murray, two of our key attacking players last season, strengthening in this area was always going to be important.

We could still do with a few more additions; defensive cover (only two first team centre backs available), and greater quality in central midfield (preferably a creative set-piece specialist + plus someone with a bit of height and strength). Gus has also said he wants another striker. Overall though, the squad's looking good.

How confident are you of finishing the season as the top club on the South Coast?

Ha, not overly confident, although it would be nice to finish above Pompey & Saints for the first time in my Albion supporting life. Whilst I think we'll do fine, I feel Saints have the squad and resources to do just that little bit better. (Said through gritted teeth, don't worry)

You must fancy your chances of picking up a result on Saturday after Pompey's dire defeat to Barnet?

Yeah, not a great result that! We just about did enough to see off Gillingham, though.

What do you think of Pompey's prospects in general this season?

A strong, experienced first XI - David Norris will prove an astute signing. But quite simply, and I'm sure you've been hearing this all summer, there doesn't appear to be enough strength in depth to mount a real promotion push. It'll require a hefty slice of luck on the injury front to not suffer a serious player shortage at some stage.

Brighton are known for playing attractive football whereas Pompey have a reputation for hoof ball under Steve Cotterill so what sort of match are you expecting?

A tough one. We made fairly light work of it last season in the FA Cup, but I'm expecting an entirely different proposition this time round - providing Pompey keep 11 men on the field. We try to keep the ball on the deck at all costs, and play out from the back - so there could be quite a contrast in styles. I think we'll have our work cut out winning the midfield battle, with the likes of Norris, Mokoena and Mullins in there - and that could go some way to deciding the outcome.

Predict the outcome of the game.

1-1

And finally, if you could only win at either Fratton Park or St. Mary's this season, which ground would you rather win at?

Selhurst Park! Na, between the two I'd have to say Fratton Park. We've beaten Saints on their own patch quite recently, whereas you'd have to go back a long, long way to find our last win on Pompey territory.
