The Opposition View: Arsenal

Arsenal fan and writer for Arsenal Insider, Conor Dardis, answers the questions I put to him ahead of our likely beating at the Emirates Stadium.

Before the start of the season everyone wrote off your title hopes. After the 6-1 thrashing at Everton do you feel Arsenal can win the title or is your season still about holding off the likes of Man City for 4th place?

I don't see City making the top 4. They'll have a bump in their season somewhere. I've never seen that many players arrive and gel instantly so I don't think it's possible. I was quite confident that we'd do well this year with the squad maturing.

A lot was always going to depend on how Thomas Vermaelen plays throughout the season and he's been very impressive so far. If he maintains that level of performance I think we'll push on.

Have you been impressed with your transfer window activity so far?

We've only brought in Thommy V, if that's all we do then that'll be fine.

Arsenal haven't won a trophy since the FA Cup in 2005. Is Arsene Wenger really the man for the job or has he now gone stale after a few sub-par seasons?

Mr. Wenger is the ONLY man for the job. He's running a team that's competitive and in terms of player sales is in the black. He has the spine to release top players if they're unsettling the dressing room. What more could Gooners want?

Do you think Wenger's faith in his youth will pay dividends in the end or is he going to have to spend big money to compete for major honours in the near future?

Nothing can change, this is what some fans don't get. The money's not there and we don't want a billionaire sugar daddy. Youth is the only way forward and I think it'll bare fruit.

Arsenal have threats all over the pitch but who is the most dangerous player in your team?

Arshavin. He's not been sparkling in his first two games but the opposition can never leave him unattended. With Cesc, they can provide great creativity and so can make any situation dangerous, just like the 4th goal at Everton last week.

Do any Pompey players worry you in the slightest given the fact we have failed to score against Fulham and Birmingham this season already?

I still think Niko Kranjcar can cause problems. The big thing for us so far this season is that we've been strong in midfield. If we continue that then we should limit Pompey's chances.

Do you expect to thrash us or do you think it will be a tight game given that we are likely to play 11 men behind the ball for the entire match.

We're playing a new formation and I think it will help us for these types of games. With Bendtner on the right we can play a high ball into the flank, and that caused both Everton and Celtic problems.

Arshavin was bought because we needed that little bit more quality in the final third when teams put bodies behind the ball. Hopefully he will open his account tomorrow.

How many are you going to beat us by tomorrow?

I'll go for a 3-1 win for Arsenal.
