The Opposition View: AFC Wimbledon

Last updated : 25 April 2016 By Jim Bonner

What's your assessment of Wimbledon's season so far?

Better than expected. Ardley's main weakness last season was that he wanted us to play like something out of a UEFA coaching manual instead of the blood & thunder tactics you need in League Two. This season with Lyle Taylor & Tom Elliot we have two forwards who can bully defenders and get goals instead of trying to pass it into the net.

What do Dons fans think of Andy Barcham and Paul Robinson since they left Portsmouth last summer?

Barcham can be hot or cold and when he's cold he's completely anonymous. Robinson is immense - my player of the season. His impact at centre-back has been phenomenal.

Michael Smith once turned out for your team. What did Dons fans think of him?

Smith was very good for us when we had him on loan from Charlton. He looked like he was too good for the fourthir so was no surprise when he went to Swindon for £100k. He scored 21 goals in 60 games for them so should do well for Pompey. He's a quality striker if he suits your system.

Who are the key players in this current Wimbledon squad?

Key players for us this season have been Robinson, captain & defender Barry Fuller & striker Lyle Taylor. After a shaky start, Taylor's twenty goals have been the difference between another mid-table finish and getting in the play-offs. His understanding up front with Elliot has blossomed since Christmas.

What are the main strengths and weaknesses of your team?

Strengths: Solid defence, Taylor & Elliot up front.

Weaknesses; Midfield can go missing, plus Meades suffered a season ending injury against the Daggers last week, weakening it further.

Predict the outcome of the game and would you take a draw now if offered?

It'll be a tight 1-1 draw, which I would take right now!
