The League One Promotion Race Page

Last updated : 24 April 2018 By Jim Bonner

As the season enters its final stretch there are still numerous teams aiming to finish in a coveted play-off position to earn promotion to the Championship.

Portsmouth now need a minor miracle to extend their season past May 5th. This page is dedicated to keeping track of the positions, form and remaining fixtures of all the teams that Pompey could still finish above, meaning any position from 5th and below is up for grabs with just six points to play for.

5th: Charlton Athletic: 68pts (GD +7)

Following Saturday's defeat to the Addicks, the only way Pompey can realistically overtake them now is if they win their last two games and Charlton lose both of theirs.

Recent Form: WWLLDW (10 points from the last 18)

Remaining Fixtures

Blackburn (H)

Rochdale (A)

6th: Scunthorpe United: 67pts (GD +10)

Scunthorpe ended their woeful run of form with a win and followed that up with a win over Walsall. They now also have a game in hand on Pompey and are four points clear, making them extremely difficult to catch.

Recent Form: WWDDDL (9 points from the last 18)

Remaing Fixtures

MK Dons (A)

Plymouth (H)

Bradford (H)

7th: Plymouth Argyle: 65pts (GD +3)

Argyle have well and truly turned themselves around since being sent to the bottom of the league by Pompey last year but have stumbled in their last two games and could yet be caught.

Recent Form: DLDWWL (8 points from the last 18)

Remaining Fixtures

Rotherham (H)

Scunthorpe (A)

Gillingham (A)

8th: Portsmouth: 63pts (GD 0)

Pompey's chances of finishing in the play-offs are all but over following the defeat to Charlton. A four match winless run following the four match winning streak has summarised their inconsistent season.

Recent Form: LLDDWW (8 points from the last 18)

Remaining Fixtures

Bury (A)

Peterborough (H)
