Portsmouth striker Teddy Sheringham has won the Barclaycard Player of the Month
for August, the first of the 2003/04 season.

Sheringham picks up the award having notched four goals in the opening month of
the season which has made him joint top leader of the Barclaycard race for the
Golden Boot. The accolade will give him a timely boost ahead of his first visit
to North London since moving to Portsmouth.

The decision was made by the Barclaycard Awards Panel, which includes
representatives from football’s governing bodies, the media and fans.

The Barclaycard Awards Panel said: "Teddy Sheringham is placed fifth in the
list of all-time Premiership goal scorers and at the age of 37 he is showing no
signs of slowing down. His intelligence and ability have served him well and
will undoubtedly be essential to Portsmouth as the season progresses."
