Taylor returns with a bang!

On a night where teams such as Sunderland and Birmingham crashed out to lower division sides, Portsmouth eased past their thrid division rivals Northampton Town 5-2, courtesy of two goals from another player recently back from injury, Tim Sherwood, a brace for Jason Roberts and a vicious 20 yard strike from Matthew Taylor.

The match was effectively over as a contest when Cobblers defender Paul Reid was sent off for a professional foul within ten minutes. By half time the score was 3-0 and there was no looking back.

Northampton's late consolations through Chris Hargreaves and Lawrie Dudfield were never a threat to Pompey's lead and Portsmouth cruise into the third round - the draw for which will be held on Saturday at 5pm.
