Stone keen to stay at Pompey

The 31-year-old ex-England international is at Fratton Park after falling out of favour with Villa boss Graham Taylor and is keen to make the move permanent when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Stone said: "The plan is to try and get another month's loan and, when the transfer window opens, get a move here.

"I don't figure in the manager's plans at Villa, although he hasn't said that in so many words.

"But when you haven't played a single minute's Premiership football since last season, you don't need it in writing.

"It's great to join a team playing well and passing the ball around.

"I think it would be best for all concerned that I stay here."
