Spitfires Shot Down Emphatically By Pompey

Pompey finally got to winning ways in pre-season with a convincing victory at BlueSquare South side Eastleigh.

Paul Hart fielded a mixture of youth and fringe players for the first 60 minutes and this side raced into a two goal lead when Younes Kaboul headed in a corner in the 4th minute and then Paris Cowan-Hall added a second with another header from a Basinas corner.

Danijel Subotic added a third after a defensive howler by Eastleigh captain Tom Jordan (son of Joe). His backpass completely missed the Spitfires' goalkeeper and Subotic was left with an easy tap in.

The hosts got one back through Brett Williams' glancing header later in the half but the second half belonged to David Nugent when a stronger XI was introduced on the hour mark.

The former Preston striker bagged a hat-trick after slotting the first one past Jason Matthews, he then followed that up with a volley and a chip to complete the rout and an excellent half-hour for the Pompey striker.

No complaints today then and it was good to see Hermann Hreidarsson on the team sheet even though he was injured after a challenge by Brett Poate that got the former Havant & Waterlooville a yellow card.

Nadir Belhadj also made his first pre-season appearance but the major news tonight is that Peter Crouch has Tottenham after he completed a medical and agreed personal terms.

Hopefully Nugent can take his place given his performance tonight, even if it was against Eastleigh.
