South American Swoop

Pompey have completed another signing, this time John Viafara from Once Caldas. The only thing that could possibly go wrong is a work permit that still needs to be sorted out, although with Viafara a regular in midfield for Colombia it shouldn't be an issue. He's here for three years to start with but the possibility of an extension should he impress during his time here.

The 26-year-old has been touted as "Amdy Faye's replacement" by Milan Mandaric but in truth is more of a box-to-box man, and far more attacking than Faye. Regardless of who he's here to replace, it's certainly useful to have more bodies in central midfield as that's somewhere we're a little bit thin on the ground.

Viafara himself spoke about the deal and said, "When I look at where I have come from and where I am now, I believe that I am a winner, I am a winner in football." Glad to see that one came across well in the translation.

Welcome to the club, John! Even if your name isn't really South American enough for someone from Colombia!
