Sorin To Pompey?

Last updated : 24 July 2006 By Jim Bonner
Yet another big name has been linked to Fratton Park in Argentina captain and left-sider Juan Pablo Sorin. The 30 year old is in demand and is thought to be wanting to leave current club Villareal.

I originally thought that this was just a ridiculous rumour from the papers that nothing would come out of. After all it's easy to link Sorin to a move to Portsmouth considering the following factors:

- Villareal have said they would sell him
- Pompey have money
- Pompey are severely lacking in left-sided players
- Sorin has said he wants to play in the Premiership
- Villareal won't be in Europe after losing in the Intertoto Cup
- Villareal aren't exactly a big club themselves

Combine all of those factors together and it would equal a move elsewhere and with Gaydamak's backing it's not suprising that we're in the frame. Now I just laughed off the rumour this morning until Mandaric did confirm that we were trying to sign him and we almost snapped him up three years ago. So maybe he could be a serious target for us although no doubt we'll have some stern competition to beat off as Bolton and Inter Milan are also rumoured to be interested.

I'm not going to get my hopes up on this one. I'd be very happy to see a player of Sorin's calibre at our club but the negativity in me feels that we'll miss out once again.

In other news Brian Priske is 99% certain to join Club Brugge in Belgium. We're getting very thin on numbers now, so reinforcements are needed even more than ever especially if Lua Lua leaves too.
