Sheringham wants to stay

Sheringham, who has been in rich form for Portsmouth, hitting the first Premiership hat-trick of the campaign against Bolton in August, points to manager Harry Redknapp and strike partner Yakubu Ayegbini as his reasons for considering delaying his retirement.

"The manager is doing a great job in looking after me" stated Teddy.

He adds:"I still feel great, but there are a number of top-class players in the team with plenty of pace, which is a help.

"Yakubu is ever so quick and I like having a lot of younger legs around me.

"If that blend can keep on proving productive at this level you never know what might happen. Let's just say I am optimistic."
