David Nugent opened his Pompey account with two goals at St Georges Park in a 7-0 rout of Newport Isle of Wight.

A strong Pompey side contained many players the played the entire game at Bournemouth last night meaning some of the lads had played 180 minutes of football in 48 hours.

Gary O'Neil opened the scoring and Hermann Hriedarsson doubled Pompey's lead before the game hit the 20 minute mark. O'Neil then added another before David Nugent scored a brace before half time. Newport's best chance came when Andy O'Brien was nutmegged by one of their players but he hit the post and so Portsmouth led 5-0 at the interval.

The pace of the game took a massive drop in the second half but that didn't stop us scoring as Martin Cranie fired a belter in and Franck Songo'o notched one of his own amongst a whole host of other missed chances for the likes of Matt Taylor.

So an emphatic win as you'd expect against a side who play in the Southern Football League Division One South and West (that's 8 levels below the Premiership) and it's good to see Nugent finally grab a couple of goals.

In other news, we now know that the first name of the trialist Christophe is Jean Francois and he's signed a two year contract with the club. The former Lens youth is likely to be loaned out at the start of the season.
