Reds Rob Pompey

It's difficult to sum up how angry and deflated I am after Fernando Torres' injury-time header won a game for Liverpool when Pompey were leading with just five minutes to go.

Liverpool were as poor a side as I've seen at Fratton Park all season as Rafa Benitez gambled with his team selection and played six defenders. They were really there for the taking but our own ability to self-destruct has cost us valuable points that may ultimately cost us our Premier League status.

A draw was the least we deserved today. For all of Liverpool's possession in the first half they didn't really create anything in open play bar a Mascherano long shot although Fabio Aurelio's free kick had Pompey fans worried as it hit the post.

The second half was a different story as Pompey looked brighter going forward and soon took the lead when David Nugent's shot nutmegged Jose Reina as Pompey fans began to dream of a famous win.

Those dreams were soon crushed as Peter Crouch obviously thought he was still playing for Liverpool and inexplicably passed the ball back to David James who had no choice but to handle it and give away a free kick as someone in Red had an easy tap in otherwise.

Aurelio blasted in the resulting free kick but fair play to the men in blue for not letting their heads drop as some predicted and the dreams of beating the scousers and claiming our first win in nine league games were re-ignited when Hermann Hreidarsson headed in Belhadj's free kick.

With around 12 minutes to go and Liverpool not doing anything to suggest a comeback was imminent I thought we may close the game down only to remember how poor Sylvain Distin has been recently.

He was my player of last season yet seems a shadow of his former self now and he made another costly error by failing to cut out a through ball which allowed Dirk Kuyt to equalise. I vented my frustrations but accepted that a draw against a title challenging side wasn't a bad result at all.

Only Fernando Torres' stoppage time header from a cross ensured it wasn't a draw and that Pompey fans left Fratton Park deflated and heartbroken yet again this season.

I can't believe how unlucky we've been but the bottom line is that we were punished for two errors and our failure to protect a lead (or even a level score) has cost us once again.

Then of course you could curse our luck after Howard Webb denied us what I thought was a clear cut penalty for handball in the box, but then I will also admit that we were lucky to see the offside flag go up and see Kuyt's goal disallowed.

There were positives to take from today. Angelos Basinas settled in straight away and looks up for the battle whilst Nuge continues to develop into a proper Premier League player.

The best thing is that all the sides below us in the table also lost so we're still not in the relegation zone having played a game less than our rivals at the bottom. What does worry me is the fact we've now lost our last four games at Fratton Park having conceded 11 goals in those games.

I'd also like to vent my frustrations at those who were walking out of the ground and said that Adams should be sacked. What exactly did he do wrong today? He got the players working hard and he can't personally stop people like Crouch and Distin making stupid mistakes.

The players are obviously fully behind him, you could see that in their commitment they showed today so we need to do the best we can to support him for what will be a massive game against Manchester City next week.
