Reading vs Pompey Preview

Last updated : 31 December 2007 By Jim Bonner
The end of 2007 was not a great time for Pompey fans and so we will want to put those unhappy memories behind us by beating Reading on New Year's Day.

The Royals have been virtually the polar opposite of Pompey, as they are excellent at home and poor on the road. They also managed to score 4 on the road in their last game but lost 6-4, so I wonder what the odds are on another 7-4 scoreline tomorrow!?

I'm personally glad that we're back on the road and I think Harry will go back to his tried-and-tested 4-3-3 formation that has worked wonders away from home. Steve Coppell is likely to stick with the same side that lost to Tottenham, despite shipping six goals.

After our dreadful defeat to Middlesbrough, we really need to win this game but it won't be easy against a Reading side who always score goals, especially at the Madejski. Having said that, Pompey's only two visits to Reading's new ground have both ended goalless.

David Nugent has been linked to Reading in a swap deal for Leroy Lita so it will be interesting to see if these two players play a part in the events tomorrow, although the most important thing is the three points and a performance that suggests we can get out of this recent slump of form.
