Pre-season planning

We're still in the death throes of season 04/05, let alone worrying about what fate will befall us during the next campaign. But during those long and painful summer months to come we need to be able to calm ourselves with pre-season friendlies to look forward to. And so far, the club have not disappointed with more being announced by the day.

It all starts as early as July 12th with the traditional visit to Havant & Waterlooville. On the 16th it's down to Yeovil, but sadly there will be no West Country tour for the first time in absolutely ages - instead, we're off to France to play Bordeaux and Monaco at some point inbetween then 18th and 24th. But we don't know exactly when or where yet because, er, we haven't got a ground to play them in.

Jumpers for goalposts, anyone?

The most recently announced match sees a trip down to Bournemouth on July 27th, a ground where we lost 5-4 in a pre-season testimonial just a couple of years ago. Inter Milan visit on July 31st and then we get another game at Fratton Park at the beginning of August, presumably the Saturday before the season kicks off properly. Strong rumours suggest an international side from the Far East, and some go one step further and say that it'll tie in with our supposed future sponsors - Chang Beer, formerly linked with Everton.

There was also due to be another game against Cardiff or West Ham depending on how the play-offs panned out, but for the time being that seems to have dropped out of the schedule without any mention of why (or indeed why not). Rest assured if anything is mentioned by the club then you'll hear about it somewhere else first.
