Portsmouth vs Ipswich Preview

Early Championship pace setters Ipswich Town visit Fratton Park for what promises to be another tough fixture for Pompey.

Team News

Steve Cotterill is waiting to see if deals for Liam Lawrence, Ricardo Rocha, Kyle Naughton and Kanu have gone through in time for the players to play tomorrow, though Dave Kitson will make his Pompey debut. Tommy Smith has completed his loan move to QPR and so obviously won't take part.

Roy Keane is likely to stick with a similar team to the side that has started the season so well.

The Match

Pompey's run of difficult home games continue as Roy Keane's Ipswich come to Fratton Park looking to extend their unbeaten run this season. The Tractor Boys have already recorded impressive away wins at Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace this season and will think rock-bottom Pompey will be ripe for the picking.

However, should Pompey be granted their loan signings then the squad will look much stronger and the team should be more than capable of giving Ipswich a run for their money.

David Nugent has been a thorn in Ipswich's side whenever he has played against them, so hopefully he can finally get on the scoresheet in the league. Having a strike partner in Kitson should also benefit him greatly, so we might be able to get the best out of him.

Without the new arrivals, I can see nothing but a defeat but I'm confident that Lawrence, Rocha and Kanu will all be available to play. Getting Naughton would be an added bonus too.

Svestoslav Todorov gave Pompey the lead after taking advantage of goalkeeper Andy Marshall's error but the visitors went away with a point as Thomas Gaardsoe headed in an equaliser from Jim Magilton's corner.

Town defender Chris Makin was sent off for a second yellow card late on in the game and Fabian Wilnis left Fratton Park on a stretcher after collapsing after the final whistle.

My Prediction

I quite fancy us to draw this game for some reason and a point wouldn't be too bad against a side tipped to do well this season.
