Pompey vs Bolton Preview

The transfer window has slammed shut, the new players have been brought in, the unwanted have been cleared out, the most important players have stayed. Now we must start winning football matches starting tonight against Bolton Wanderers.

Results didn't really go for us yesterday with West Brom picking up a point at Charlton and Sunderland suprising us all and losing once again. So if survival is a realistic possibility then we certainly need to win tonight and it could be argued that we need to go to Newcastle on Saturday and win too because time is running out.

The task at hand is certainly not an easy one as far as tonights match is concerned. Once again Big Sam has got Bolton on a roll by making them characteristically very hard to beat even if it is crude to watch sometimes. The good news is that Bolton have many key players missing either through injury or the African Nations Cup. So that means no Gary Speed, Ivan Campo or that waste of sperm otherwise known as El Hadji Diouf. Even so, we still have the likes of Kevin Nolan, Kevin Davies and Stelios to keep an eye on but if Bolton were ever going to be for the taking then tonight must be the night.

Onto Pompey and who knows what system or players we're going to play tonight? It is rumoured that Routledge and D'Alessandro will be given their debuts meaning Taylor might be pushed back to left back and Hughes and Gary O'Neil would miss out altogether which might seem a bit criminal seeing how well both have been playing recently. Another option would be to go with the system that worked well against Liverpool in the second half and play a 3-5-2 and really pack the midfield and close down Bolton at every oppurtunity. I am intrigued to see how well D'Alessandro plays. Will he live up to the hype? Or will he fall flat? Will Harry play Koroman? What is he like? Has Gary O'Neil been confined to the bench for the rest of the season? Will Big Sam ever stop moaning? Maybe we'll get some of the answers tonight but the bottom line is. We must win.
