Pompey to step up Dons midfielder chase

The move to bring winger Jobi McAnuff, 21, and central midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker, 19, to Fratton Park seemed certain to go through earlier this month after the clubs agreed on a joint fee of £350k for the pair, but a potential buyer for the troubled South London side has thrown a spanner in the works by suggesting that if a deal were to go through for the pair, they would pull out of the deal.

However, Portsmouth are eager to push the move through, as they are short on midfield cover after releasing Paul Merson to Walsall, and target Jody Morris has instead decided to join Leeds.

Chief Executive Peter Storrie told The News today: "We're still hopeful of doing something....a lot of people say they want to buy a club, it's quite another (thing) doing it".
