Pompey target defender to shore up defence

In a bid to shore up a leaky defence, Pompey have turned to experience by declaring interest in Austrian, Lipa. The defender comes with an impressive pedigree - playing top level football with Grazer AK in the Austrian Bundeliga, as well as competeing in the UEFA Cup.

The 30 year old is a powerful stopper who Graham Rix sees as the man to replace Darren Moore - albeit with a bit more class on the ball. Milan Mandaric yesterday admitted in The News that, in hindsight, the club were wrong to sell the ex-Pompey skipper - An opinion that divides most Pompey fans.

If Lipa impresses, Pompey hope to sign him next week. Another move that must be in the pipeline is a signing of a striker. Mandaric has given Rix and Redknapp the go-ahead to sign a new frontman, but it is proving easier said than done.

Despite being on holiday in Barbados, Harry is said to be in constant contact with the club on his phone and it wouldn't surprise me if a striker was signed before tomorrow's midday Wimbledon deadline.
