Pompey Sign Champions League Winner

I can see it already. Pompey fans up in arms because we've signed one of the dodgiest left backs in the Premiership: Djimi Traore. I too have to admit, when I heard this news I initially thought "What the hell is Harry playing at!?"

Then I remembered that we don't have a left back. So in a way, this is a fair signing despite his reputation for being awful for Liverpool and Charlton; who we have signed him from for about £1 million according to reports.

Despite his uncanny ability to be mistake prone, we shouldn't be questioning this signing too much. He's not cost much, he can do a job and under Harry Redknapp's guidance he could turn his career around. Remember our reaction to the signing of Kanu? Don't be too quick to judge Traore either.

Djimi is likely to start the next game against Sheffield United. If we hadn't signed him then Taylor would have played left back whilst Kranjcar would have started another game. Could this signing mean that we're planning for Niko's absense and that he might be leaving sooner than we think?

Also, the official site squad list has Traore registered with the number 22 shirt. Now we all know how often the official site screws up (they still have Ivica Mornar on the list) but if they haven't, then surely it means Richard Hughes is leaving? Hughes is the current owner of the number 22 shirt.

The 26-year-old Mali international joins Pompey on a two and a half year contract.

So, Pompey have made two signings now. One of which is being asked "who?" and the other one - "why?" Hopefully we'll find out the answers to these questions soon.
