Pompey Pre-Season Friendlies

Last updated : 14 June 2008 By Jim Bonner
Portsmouth have revealed the complete programme for their pre-season friendlies.

It begins on Wednesday July 16th with a trip to St. James' Park to play Exeter City (not Newcastle!) and then two days later the team will travel to Swindon Town.

Kevin Bond will be reunited with Harry Redknapp on the 22nd of July as Pompey travel to Bournemouth before jetting off to Nigeria to play either the national side or a Nigerian Premier League outfit at the Abuja Stadium on the 25th.

Pompey end the stint in Africa on Sunday July 27th for the first of two pre-season encounters with Manchester United before returning home and meeting up with Jim Smith again as we take on Oxford United on August 4th.

The day after will probably see a weakened side play the annual friendly at Havant & Waterlooville at West Leigh Park before the final "friendly" which, of course, is the Community Shield match at Wembley on Sunday 10th.

There will be no home friendly this year as the pitch is being re-seeded so it's in pristine condition for next season. I'm surprised that Milan Mandaric hasn't been in contact for another pre-season game with League One Leicester City though.

Barclays Asia Trophy last year, let's hope this year it's the shield!
